Across Scotland, nearly 140 groups share in Lottery funding worth over £1m. Find out where funding has gone in your area here December 2012 Awards for All
Awards for All is the National Lottery’s small grants scheme which gives out grants of between £500 and £10,000 that make a big difference across Scotland and today 138 organisations are set to benefit from new funding worth £1,038,652.
Today’s bumper package means the Wishaw District Ex Services Club Senior Citizen Section will get a grant of £3,000 to ensure Christmas comes early for ex-servicemen in the area. Many of the veterans don’t have the chance to go to many social events during the year and the award means they will be able to organise a Christmas dinner dance and begin their Festive celebrations together.
The Ayrshire town of Dalmellington will be lit up in style in time for Christmas after an award of £8,500 to Dalmellington Community Council. The Christmas lights are displayed in the town centre every December but last year the old lights failed and weren’t able to be repaired before the big day. Now the group will be able to buy new LED lights, which use less electricity and are more environmentally friendly.
A thirty mile round trip is a long way to go for a quick trip to the cinema and, often, not an easy prospect for the elderly or families struggling to make ends meet. Now people in Helensburgh won’t have far to travel as they’ll be able to see screenings of films, old and new in the town, thanks to an award of £10,000 to Friends of the Victoria Hall. The group will buy a projector and set up a community film club which will meet in the hall every week. The money will also allow them to train local volunteers to help run the club.
An Awards for All spokesman, said: “All of these grants are a great way to show the variety of projects that can be funded through Awards for All. We are always surprised at the difference a relatively small amount of money can make in communities across Scotland. We wish all of these groups the best for the festive season and the future.”
Awards for All is the small grants scheme supported by three of the National Lottery good cause distributors in Scotland: Creative Scotland, the Big Lottery Fund and sportscotland. The scheme makes awards of between £500 and £10,000 to grass-roots community groups and voluntary organisations.
