Lottery live grant making was back with a bang last night (Thursday 24th October) as we joined with our partner roshni in celebrating Scotland’s minority ethnic communities.
At a celebratory event in Glasgow, 49 groups won their share of almost £300,000 from the Scottish Ethnic Communities (SEC) fund after being chosen by the audience through an interactive live vote. Here are a list of all of the SEC winners by area.
The Scottish Ethnic Communities Fund was set up with money from our small grants Awards for All programme and is the first of its kind in Scotland marking an incredible investment in projects and services that will directly benefit Scotland’s minority ethnic communities. Over the last year we have been working in partnership with roshni to help Scotland’s ethnic minority community apply for grants of up to £10,000.
Ali Khan, roshni Executive Chair, said: “I am delighted to bring such a creative and ambitious concept to Scotland which reflects roshni’s commitment to supporting minority ethnic communities. Last night’s event is only the beginning of a successful journey for such inspiring projects and we look forward to supporting projects further to help their ambition become a reality. I would like to congratulate all winners who are trying to improve outcomes for not only themselves but the wider community.”
Big Lottery Fund Scotland Director Jackie Killeen, said: “We were delighted with the response to our Scottish Ethnic Communities fund which saw a number of funding applications for projects aimed at supporting minority ethnic groups across Scotland. Last night we heard in detail about their fantastic ideas but it was the voting audience who ultimately made the final decision on which group would receive the funding. I’d like to congratulate all of the winning projects which will now be able to turn their ideas into reality.”
A further £200,000 from the Scottish Ethnic Communities Fund will be distributed at a later date. Keep an eye on our blog for more information coming soon.
