The Big Lottery Fund has developed and delivered a range of funding programmes to support communities and individuals most in need. Our Place is a different way of investing Lottery funding that focuses on the assets, strengths, interests and values of a community rather than focussing on its problems or deficits. It specifically aims to build stronger connections and relationships within communities by helping local people and organisations to make positive changes in their own neighbourhood.
Our Place 1 opened for applications in 2010 and has since invested around £11m across 25 projects in five neighbourhoods, each of which reflects a vision set by local people themselves. For more information about Our Place contact Mhairi Reid in our Policy Team on 0141 242 1400. We’ve learned from the first initiative and are now preparing to launch Our Place 2 in the summer of 2014. Our Place 2 will help communities to help themselves by focussing on the positive aspects of each neighbourhood and the people who live there. This time we will work in seven neighbourhoods:
– Auchmuty in Fife
– Camelon in Falkirk
– Lochside and Lincluden in Dumfries and Galloway
– Douglas in Dundee
– Ardrossan (Central and North East) in North Ayrshire
– Whitlawburn and Springhall in South Lanarkshire
– Shortlees in East Ayrshire.
The Our Place programme will use an approach know as “Asset Based Community Development (ABCD) and will put in place specific support for communities to build the capacity of local people and organisations to make effective applications to the Big Lottery Fund. We will open the application process in early 2015.
We are currently undertaking an open procurement process for 5-year support contracts in each of our seven chosen neighbourhoods. Organisations interested in applying to deliver these contracts have until the 24th February to submit the Pre Qualification Questionnaire.
