LaunchMe – Inspiring social enterprises

June 5, 2015

LaunchMe R2 cohort with John Swinney and Firstport Chief Exec Karen McGregor (on right)Seven inspirational social enterprises in Scotland have recently been selected to join LaunchMe, a business accelerator programme designed and delivered by social enterprise development agency Firstport. The LaunchMe 2015 cohort ranges from a community shop selling local produce in the Western Isles to superheroine-style pants that fund workshops for disadvantaged young women in Glasgow. All of the businesses are about to begin an exciting journey with Firstport, who will support them over the next 18 months to realise their ambitions.

Funded by the Big Lottery Fund and Social Investment Scotland, LaunchMe aims to grow the social investment market in Scotland. The LaunchMe 2015 cohort will benefit from a tailored programme of support and advice, early seed funding and contact with new investors who can help them rapidly scale their social and economic impact. Investment attracted by the cohort will also open up opportunities to unlock non-repayable grant funds.

The LaunchMe 2014 cohort has already attracted almost £200,000 in investment from Scottish business angels, taken on new staff and secured new premises, and the 2015 intake are motivated to continue that success! With the right mix of finance and expertise we are confident they can all achieve lasting benefits for people and communities in Scotland.
