Training sessions free to current grant holders

As part of our grant holder support offering we are pleased to be offering training sessions.

This dedicated programme is available free of charge to organisations holding active grants with The National Lottery Community Fund in Scotland. This includes Awards for All, Young Start, Community Led and Improving Lives. Unfortunately we cannot offer this training to our Scottish Land Fund grant holders as this is Third Party Funding.

Financial and sustainability training

There are 3 bespoke sessions available.

Although these sessions are standalone, sessions 1 and 2 are ideally accessed as a package on consecutive weeks, with session 3 building in the more technical elements of financial planning.

Session 1: Understanding costs

This session will cover:

  • Projecting costs
  • Recognising core costs and full cost recovery
  • Costs of income generation and social enterprise activity.
  • Considering costs of fundraising
  • Considering different delivery methods/doing it smarter
  • How costs change with activity levels

Session 2: Understanding sustainable income generation

This session will cover:

  • Consideration of variety of income sources
  • Grant funding: It’s place as part of continuity and reducing over-reliance
  • Income generation and pricing
  • Using Gift Aid
  • Exploring different ways of fundraising
  • Corporate sponsorship and making your pitch
  • Introduction to community shares and debentures

Session 3: Budget setting and financial management

This session will cover:

  • Budget setting and financial assumptions
  • Budget monitoring
  • Cashflow planning
  • Capital project development and financial planning

ACOSVO

Free bespoke events, giving leaders in the third sector opportunities to excel and develop.

Balanced roles for healthy colleagues

This workshop explores key factors that affect whether a role is stressful or fulfilling. It will give leaders insight into how they can shape team roles to improve performance and team members experiences.

Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

This series of bespoke events is lead by Tony McCaffery, founder of Diversity Scotland.

These sessions are designed to facilitate conversation, increase awareness, knowledge and skills around diversity, equity and inclusion.

Each 90 minute online session aims to empower and enable you to drive cultural change within your organisation and your interactions with your external stakeholders.

Sessions will cover:

  • Examining power and privilege
  • Marginalised, minoritised and under represented groups in Scotland
  • Using inclusive language
  • Conscious inclusion and effective allyship.
  • Discuss actions you can take within your organisation to increase diversity, advance equity and foster inclusion

Scottish Voluntary Sector CEO check in

Join this discussion session for voluntary sector leaders about their leadership journey over the last few years; what has changed for them and what the highs and lows have been.

Candid Chair stories

A networking and discussion event exclusively for Scottish voluntary sector Chairs, Vice Chairs and those considering moving into the roles.

For this session you’ll hear some candid Trustee stories. These will include examples of numerous difficult or challenging situations Trustees have faced and what steps could be taken to overcome them and reach a solution.

We are delighted that this session will be hosted by Shirley Otto. Shirley is a specialist in governance and management development in the charity and not-for-profit sector.

Leading in a Changing World

Our world is changing and in order to deal with this we need to let go of traditional narratives about what leadership is and how leaders should behave in order to embrace a heart-led leadership style which which is built on compassion and empowerment

Participants will gain…

  • an understanding of traditional leadership narratives, where they come from, and why they no longer serve us
  • an understanding of how and why a more heart-led leadership style is so important and necessary
  • ideas on how to develop this leadership style in themselves and others

ACOSVO help leaders in the third sector all year round. If you would like to get involved with their other events, conferences or Women’s network they are offering a 75% discount on their annual membership for groups holding an active grant from The National Lottery Community Fund in Scotland.
