Top Tips for a Greener Year
1. Green Your Finances
Take a closer look at where your money is going. Consider switching to a climate-friendly pension plan, bank, or energy provider to align your finances with your environmental values.
A useful blog from Friends of the Earth can help you with this.

2. Commit to Zero Food Waste
Make a conscious effort not to throw away edible food. Plan meals, use leftovers creatively, and compost food scraps when possible.
Love Food Hate Waste website has lots of tools and advice about using leftovers, including a tool where you can search a food item and get suggest recipes!

3. Go Peat-Free in the Garden
If you’re a keen gardener, choose only peat-free compost and check that any potted plants you buy were grown without peat. Protecting peatlands helps combat climate change by preserving carbon-rich ecosystems.
4. Ditch the Car for Local Trips
For short journeys, leave the car at home. Walking or cycling once a week instead can reduce your carbon footprint and improve your health.

5. Care for a Tree
Whether it’s planting, protecting, or caring for a tree in your local community, trees are a powerful tool for absorbing carbon dioxide and supporting wildlife.

The new year is the perfect time to start small but meaningful actions to protect the planet. By adopting some of these tips you can play your part in building a more sustainable future.
