Dormant accounts – the next steps

November 4, 2011

Thank you to everyone who contributed to the consultation on our proposals for dormant accounts funding in Scotland. Throughout October we listened to your feedback though stakeholder meetings and comments on our Blog, Twitter and Facebook channels, all of which will help inform how the £3 million available can make the biggest impact possible in Scotland’s communities.

As expected, we had some very detailed and thought provoking responses with a range of different views. While we will not be able to implement all of the responses, your experience and expertise of Scotland’s third sector gave us some invaluable information which will form the building blocks of what comes next – a strategic plan submitted to the Scottish Government with our assessment of need and a proposal for distributing the funding.

We are pleased to see that there was general support for our proposal that the overall aim of the programme should be “to support children and young people most in need”, with the beneficiary group, ‘children and young people’, being the common thread linking together the four Scottish Government themes. To help tease this out further a focus group with young people from a range of backgrounds also identified a range of activities that this funding could support.

We will now begin to develop a new funding programme that will start to benefit Scottish groups by Spring 2012.
