I feel privileged to have served as a member of the first Big Lottery Fund Scotland Committee since 2007 and now as its Scotland Chair from 2011. As a Committee Member, I continue to be enthused by the opportunities to meet colleagues with a wide range of experience and backgrounds and work together to use Lottery funding to bring real improvements to communities and the lives of people most in need across Scotland.
The Big Lottery Fund distributes over £1 million every week in Scotland to good causes. We are currently looking for new members for our Scotland Committee to help us continue this work. The successful appointees will join the talented and diverse Committee, sharing strategic responsibility for the direction and work of the Big Lottery Fund in Scotland.
They will help to decide on the funding programmes to be run in Scotland while also making a wide range of major funding decisions. When applications for support exceed the available funding we have to take some very difficult decisions – to ensure that the money available makes the biggest impact possible across Scotland. It’s a responsibility which we take very seriously because we are spending money which comes from the Lottery playing public.
So who are we looking for? Well, we want our Committee to have a broad base of knowledge, skills and experience and to reflect modern Scotland in all its diversity. We also want to include individuals who have experience of the challenges we are seeking to address, as well as an understanding of the assets and potential within Scotland’s communities which we can support.
The post of Scotland Committee member is advertised http://www.biglotteryfund.org.uk/jobs, where you can also find a briefing pack with more information and an application form. If you would like further information on the post or how to apply please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
The closing date for applications is Thursday 31 October 2013.
