When are the closing dates for these funds?
This funding is due to run until 2020, and operates on a rolling basis with no deadlines.
Can we apply for medium grants for improving lives while applying for large grants for improving lives as well?
That said, we are keen to spread our limited National Lottery funding as fairly and widely as we can. So in most cases it’s unlikely we’d consider a medium and a large grants application from you at the same time. We’ll discuss this with you when you are thinking of applying.
Can you read a draft application?
We don’t tend to look at draft applications, because we don’t just use the application form to make our decision. We will always contact you as part of our assessment so that you can explain it in your own words. So don’t feel you need to make it perfect! We can of course give advice up front though. So if you are worried about what kind of information we are looking for in a particular question just get in touch.
Will grants for Improving Lives consider any activity?
No, although we do hope it gives plenty of scope for a wide range of organisations to apply. We can consider funding activity that:
- Supports children, young people and families currently experiencing challenging circumstances
- Supports people who have experienced abuse
- Tackles loss, isolation and loneliness
- Challenges discrimination and supports people affected by this
Do we need match funding?
We will consider applications to fund 100% of a project, but in most cases we would hope to see at least some match funding, especially for larger projects.
Can either of these grants be used for capital costs?
These funds cannot typically be used for purely capital projects – such as building refurbishment.
Grants for Community-Led Activity and medium grants for improving lives can fund capital work up to £50,000, where this is required to deliver services or activities we are funding.
Large grants for Improving Lives can consider higher costs, but again only where this is required to deliver the specific services or activities we are funding.
Can any organisation apply to grants for Community-Led Activity?
An applicant organisation to this has to be based in the local area they serve and be run by local people. They should have:
- A social purpose
- Open membership
- Community control
There is more information on these on page 2 of the sample application, which you can find on the Community-Led Activity page of our website.
We want an application form. Can you send one to us?
We like to talk to you about your idea first before sending you an an application. Our sample applications can be used for anything else. Read our blog for more information on the process for making an application.
We’ve got more questions. Who’s the best person to contact?
