How to apply for our grants for Improving Lives and Community-Led Activity

November 24, 2016

Starting in 2015, we began to take a different approach to applying for funding to for grants for improving lives and grants for community-led activity  Instead of completing an application straight away, and submitting it to us speculatively, potential applicants have a conversation with us first.

What’s the process?

We want to help applicants upfront so you know if you’re eligible and your activity is suitable. To do this just get in touch! If you have a contact with us already, feel free to speak to them directly. If not,  you can call us on 0300 123 7110 or email, and we’ll get you in touch with the right personArtcore - Lifted - Access support to disabled 10 (1)

Once you contact us we will go through the basics about you and your idea. For example, what type of organisation are you, what amount of funding do you need and what your activity is. We’ll also go through our ‘three approaches’ with you.

This isn’t an assessment – it’s the start of our conversation with you on this funding.

What happens at the end of this conversation?

We will usually speak to you for 10-15 minutes. After this, we tend to give one of three recommendations:

  1. Encouraging news! Your organisation is eligible, and your idea sounds like something we could potentially support. We will send you an application form, and some suggestions on how to maximise your chances.
  2. Your idea has potential but we need more detail – if there are specific issues or areas where we’d need more detail, we’ll let you know, and suggest how you could take these forward. We’ll keep in touch!
  3. We aren’t the right funder for your idea – if  it’s unlikely you’d be successful in applying to us, we’d rather tell you this up front and save you time and effort. We’ll explain why, offer support if we can, and put you in touch with other funders or support agencies if appropriate.

12I want an application now. Will you send me one if I ask for it?

If you just want to have a look through what questions we ask, you can have a look at sample applications on our website. These include help notes, so are also useful to plan your application. If you feel you are ready to apply, and want to start filling in a form, just get in touch. We’ll have a chat about your plans, and if our funding seems right for your idea we’ll send you a form to fill out.

Where are the sample applications?

There are three in total and are all on our website. There is one each for medium and large grants for improving lives and a separate one for medium grants for community-led activity. On these pages, go to ‘Related Documents’ in the ‘How to apply tab and you will find the sample there.

What are the success rates?

You can find the latest success rates on our blog here.

Any other questions?

We are available on 0300 123 7110, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. Alternatively, you can email us.
